Bermuda, officially known as the Bermuda Islands or the Sommers Islands, is a British territory located approximately 65 miles off the coast of the United States.

Having settled in 1612, its capital, Hamilton, is the oldest and most populous continuously inhabited English city in America. The largest island, Main island, sometimes he calls himself Bermuda. Compiling a list of islands is often tricky, as many have more than one name.

With finance being its largest sector, Bermuda has a very prosperous economy, tourism is the second largest industry on the islands.

Discovered in 1503 by Juan de Bermúdez, it became a stop to replenish water and meat to the ships. Due to the legends about spirits and demons, it soon earned the name “Island of Devils”. The many stories of ships and planes disappearing in the far reaches of the Bermuda Triangle soon added fuel to the fire. To this day, a certain mystic surrounds the entire Bermuda area, as well as many miles to the south.

Judging from first-hand experience, the seas can be treacherous. During a 7-day cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Bermuda and Nassau, we experienced 20-foot seas for 30 hours, all while the weather was perfectly sunny and beautiful. I can appreciate how the ships of an earlier age would not survive.

Surviving the high seas, he made landfall at the Royal Navy Pier around 4 p.m. Sunday. Walking ashore, it was soon discovered that even though a large cruise ship had just docked, all the stores were closed and would not open until the next morning. It was nice to see that there is still somewhere on this planet where Sunday observance and traditional values outweigh the power of the almighty dollar.

Spending a lovely evening strolling the Royal Navy Pier and discovering its many unique features, it was time to retire and look forward to the next day’s adventures.

One of the great things about Bermuda is the inexpensive transportation, a full-day fare on all available forms of transportation – everything from water taxis to buses can be had for a measly $ 6.

Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda, is a modern, clean and upbeat city, with all the amenities and shops found in any American city. Combine this with British formality and you have the recipe for an enjoyable experience.

Our excursion to St. George’s was a delight and the driver told us all the history and unique features of the island.

After a seaside lunch and a walking tour of the town of St. Georges, I was back on the bus for the journey back to our floating hotel.
