What started as a request to interview Bourbon Steak Miami sommelier Matthew Turner on their award-winning wine list ended up as a four-and-a-half hour drive of pure epicurean and oenophile delight; This, my dear readers, is what the afterlife should be all about, so come with me in the light of Bourbon Steak Miami.

Matthew Turner, Sommelier at Bourbon Steak Miami, custodian and custodian of the two-time Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence for its wine list. Mateo lives the wine. What breathe is for you and me, varietals, terrior and vintages is for Matthew. There are 900 wine selections on the Bourbon Steak wine list and Matthew has tasted, tasted and enjoyed all of them and can tell you about each one. Matthew can accompany your dinner with wine and take you to gastronomic places that you do not even imagine. No dinner is complete without its proper wine pairing and Matthew did just that; properly pair the wines with each of the five dishes I enjoyed. Matthew conducts daily wine sessions in the classroom with the canteen service staff teaching and training them about the magnificent world of wine. I had the opportunity to attend one of the wine classes and I have no doubt that if it is Matthew Turner or any of his staff you ask about a selection of wines, they will guide you to the right choice.

It was an absolute thrill, course after course, each one more exciting than the last, I just didn’t want this experience to end and I didn’t think much about the amount of food and wine I could consume in one sitting.

My culinary experience of epicurean delight began with a perfectly chilled, refreshing scallop ceviche garnished with cilantro, grapefruit and served with espelette biscuits paired with MICHAEL MINA BLANC DE BLANCS IRON HORSE CUVEE, Sonoma 2000.

Staying with the cold dishes, we were served a splendid Sungold tomato Gazpacho garnished with peekytoe crab, avocado and basil served with PACO & LOLA ALBARINO, Rías Baixas, Spain 2007.

Our next dish was a rich, velvety Hudson Valley foie gras sealed with star anise and Bing cherries perfectly paired with THE RARE WINE COMPANY BOSTON BUAL, Madeira.

My main course was the melt-in-my-mouth American Kobe Rib Steak, served with Castelvetrano Olives, Arugula and Olive Oil Poached Marbled Potatoes, served with a Gorgeous BORDEAUX CHATEAU MOULIN MIX, Haut Medoc, France 2004.

And no dinner is complete without dessert, but what about three desserts? (I couldn’t make up my mind!) The desserts I always sinfully indulged in were Donut Tiramisu with Mascarpone Mousse and Espresso Syrup, the freshest and most delicious Peach Crisp with Blackberry Sorbet and a trio of refreshing and refreshing Chef’s Sorbets that was the perfect ending to the magnificent dinner, all accompanied by a tremendous dessert wine, DR. LOOSEN BEERENAUSLESE RIESLING, Mosel, Germany 2006.

Bourbon Steak is a participating restaurant in Miami Spice, a restaurant promotion program that gives restaurants the opportunity to showcase their finest cuisine, including a three-course meal during the summer months of August and September for $ 35 per person. The gazpacho, my entree, the American Kobe rib steak, and all three desserts are items on the Bourbon Steak Miami Spice menu. I highly recommend that you make the most of Miami Spice and visit Bourbon Steak. You will undoubtedly be amazed! excited and in awe to dine at Bourbon Steak. To miss out on a dining experience at Bourbon Steak would really be to miss out on something extraordinary. And if you join Matthew and his team for dinner on Wednesday night, you’ll get a double treat as it’s Bourbon & Blues night from 7: 30-10: 30pm.
