If you look at the question how can I be more successful, you will find many ideas that might be helpful. An interesting thought was that a great industrialist, Andrew Carnegie, said that he would take one young man after another and train them in his methods and they would be successful. In fact, this point is very useful, if you consider the idea that the best way to become a great musician is to learn from a great musician. So admiring a successful person might be a good idea.

An interesting story

Another helpful thought that came out of Andrew Carnegie’s actions was his ability to spot potential talent in a person. These abilities are highlighted in the following story. Napoleon Hill was a young man who wanted to become a lawyer, but did not have enough money to pay for his law studies, as he says. He had an idea that he felt that he could earn money while studying. He decided to write success stories to make money, and the first person he decided to interview was Andrew Carnegie.

The meeting that changed his life

The interview with Andrew Carnegie was scheduled to last 3 hours but it lasted 3 days. At the end of the 3 days, Andrew Carnegie told the young Napoleon Hill that he must be wondering why I have kept him here so long. He then went on to make Mr. Hill a very interesting job offer. Mr. Carnegie said that no one has written a philosophy of success that the working person can use, he said that there were philosophies of many other things but not of success.

The job offer

Andrew Carnegie asked him if he was prepared to work for 20 years to write a philosophy of success, but he wouldn’t pay him money to do it. He said he would introduce Hill to people who had been successful but started out with no money. And Napoleon could interview these people and see the things that had made them successful.

a difficult decision

Hill thought to himself that the richest man in the world wants him to work for 20 years without pay. And Napoleon thought that he doesn’t even know what the word philosophy means. To add to this, if he didn’t stay at Andrew Carnegie’s house, he wouldn’t have enough money to stay in a hotel for the 3 days, and he only had enough money to get home. So he felt that this was quite a difficult situation. He was about to say no to Mr. Carnegie, but he thought that Mr. Carnegie had an exceptional ability to understand men and he knew that Mr. Carnegie must have seen something in him to make that kind of job offer.

Conclution

So Hill said yes and took the job, and that 20-year research led to many books, including “Think and Grow Rich.” So Hill had been given a great opportunity to learn the key reasons why people are successful. Therefore, admiring successful people could be a very effective way to help him find the success that he desires. Also, learning from people who have been successful can allow you to learn the things that help them find success.
