Although many people run around with family curses every day, let’s not lose sight of the fact that many curses are self-imposed or self-inflicted. Without even realizing it, we also curse ourselves with the negative self-talk that we say internally to ourselves every day, as well as what family members or other people say to us every day. We may not think any of this, especially if it feels like the usual ways you experience life every day. You get used to hearing these comments even if you don’t like them. On a very subtle level, your subconscious mind records and stores these messages and acts on the results. You start telling yourself that you are too fat, too stupid, not good with money, not good in relationships, too ugly, too old, not good enough, etc. And these self-inflicted words not only become your reality, but can also be passed on to other members of your family. Other self-inflicted curses happen after you do something you regret. Some call this Karma, which can involve generational curses, but because this is a fair universe, whether we perceive it that way or not; what happens really happens, in more ways than one.

If you’ve been wondering what qualifies as a curse, here’s a short list of some symptoms of a curse.

• Sudden and unexplained loss of wealth or prosperity that has nothing to do with economic conditions

• Feeling that you will never amount to anything or can never do anything to “catch up”

• Sudden illness or decline in health that does not seem normal or natural

• The death of a loved one or several family members that does not make any sense

• Feeling powerless in your circumstances or thinking there is nothing you can do because you are just one person.

• The end of a perfect relationship through jealousy, lust and/or the greed of strangers.

Self-identity through Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian healing technique that reveals how forgiveness and the transmutation of these issues can be resolved by clearing negative energies stored in the subconscious. Ho’oponopono understands that it is the data files in us and the programs that we catch like a virus during our lives that interrupt and hold back our flow of positive energy. We are not the problem, but it is the data in us that is causing all the problems. This healing process requires responsibility for our actions. We must delete the programs. This responsibility does not imply guilt, but responsibility is important in the way that we are able to clean up the transgressions that have been attributed to us; whether self-imposed or transferred to us by others. By doing so, we clear the energies of our ancestors, relatives, and family members. Our lives improve on many levels as we regain balance. Unless balance is achieved in every area where there are blocks, family curses or generational curses; we cannot be freed from them. I have found Ho’oponopono to be very helpful and incorporate it as a form of healing work to break curses.
