Excessive cough production or hardening of the cough inside the chest causes chest congestion which can cause discomfort and even trouble breathing, natural remedies can melt this phlegm to remove it from the body. It mostly occurs due to an infection that causes excessive production of cough in the body and makes its movement slow to congest the chest and block the airway to cause discomfort.

Honey has many antibacterial properties and provides many effective remedies for chest congestion. Drinking a teaspoon of honey with warm water helps soothe a hardened cough in the chest to pass out and relieve symptoms of congestion. A teaspoon of ginger juice mixed with a little honey and consumed first thing in the morning is very good for relieving cough and cold symptoms. If a person is having a lot of trouble breathing due to chest congestion, inhaling eucalyptus oil vapors mixed with a little bit of peppermint can immediately clear the airways for quick relief.

Tea made from anise seeds is a good natural remedy for chest congestion as it promotes secretion from the linings of the throat and lungs to melt the cough and relieve the patient. Cardamom with thyme steams also help relieve chest congestion, as cardamom is a good decongestant, cardamom in the diet is also recommended to relieve cold symptoms. Another effective natural remedy can be prepared by mixing half a tablespoon of carambola seeds in a glass of water and a teaspoon of turmeric powder, this mixture is boiled over low heat until the volume is reduced by half. Later a teaspoon of honey can be mixed in and this syrup can be consumed 2-3 times a day for quick relief. Orange juice with warm water also relieves chest congestion; 2-3 cloves fried in oil can be chewed during the day to soften chest cough.

Eating hot food also helps relieve chest congestion. Drinking tea made by mixing basil leaves and ginger a few times a day is a good natural remedy to pass out cough from the body. Eating yellow fruits like papaya and pineapple and vegetables like spinach, capsicum, and berries also help the body to soothe a hardened cough. The use of peppers and chilies more as spices in the food helps to pass the cough. Drinking plenty of water is very beneficial as the hydrated body can clear the infection and cough easily and quickly. Using essential oils as aromatherapy for chest congestion is also an effective natural remedy. The inhalation of vapors from these oils helps to soften the mucosa through a more liquid secretion to alleviate the problem.
