Bonsai trees have been cultivated in China and Japan for centuries. Buddhist priests were the ones who created them and, in a few centuries, everyone was able to enjoy the little trees. And by little we mean little: a bonsai can live up to hundreds of years without exceeding a meter in height. By regularly cutting the branches and shortening the roots, growth is stopped. What’s more, by not providing all the necessary elements to grow, the trees remain small. Those really interested in Bonsai trees should know that this is a hobby that requires a lot of responsibility and time, because they are living trees, not dead wood.

Everyone should be aware of the fact that, especially during the growth period, there are some really important things to take care of. When it is only a small collection of Bonsai, it is enough to water the plants. The soil should be slightly moist most of the time. The leaves should be checked from time to time, to prevent insects and diseases. When this happens, you have to remove the plant from the tray. In summer, during the growth period, they must be cut so that they keep their shape. In winter, bonsai do not require special care, but they must be provided with a free space outside, where they do not freeze. Also, every few years, the plants need to be moved to larger trays. These few lines may not show how important it is to care for your Bonsai trees, but regular care is very important, including vacations when you might be away.

In Europe and North America, Bonsai trees arrived in the early 70s. Since then, many clubs, unions and associations have appeared, organizing many activities: exhibitions, fairs, seminars and more.

Being a member of a Bonsai Club is not the most important thing when growing Bonsai trees. The most important thing is to enjoy what you do and have fun while you do it.
