Cabinet Hardware Finishes
The choice of type and finish is mainly determined by the budget:
Vintage porcelain and glass – most commonly used for doorknobs, will be more easily obtained at antique stores.
Chrome – It has a mirror polished finish, is durable and does not tarnish. Maintenance is easy, just like cleaning fingerprints.
stainless steel and nickel – are common finishes with a modern and contemporary look. Nickel will not rust, fade or tarnish. Comes polished or in a dull finish.
Bronze – It is found in brass and zinc, offering a rich and luxurious look. It is slightly lighter than black, and variations offer a hint of light, amber hue, or a copper undertone. It can create an old world feel, although more contemporary designs do exist.
Brass – It has a distinctive golden look that can be finished in a variety of ways. Antique brass is more subtle and has an aged look, while polished brass has a bright, vibrant look.
Copper – has a reddish tint that suits both modern and traditional spaces. It is typically combined with brass, but can be used on zinc and other metals by dipping the base metal in a flash of copper to create a black, brushed coating for an antique look.
Black – is a colour, offers many finishes from matte to gloss, and is typically applied to brass or a powder coated finish to iron.
Tin – is an excellent choice for an intricate design because it is a softer metal and easier to work with.
